Post-Op Instructions for Implant Placement

Please wait until all the anesthesia has worn off before trying to eat anything. If you have any discomfort from your surgery, Tylenol or Ibuprofen every 4 hours should help with this. If pain persists, please call our office at 316-775-5451

On the day of the surgery, plan to take it easy with no excessive physical activity such as heavy lifting or running. We would recommend returning to your home and resting quietly that day.

If you experience excessive bleeding from the site, moisten the gauze and fold in 4. Squeeze out any excess water. Lie down and put firm pressure on the site with the gauze and bite down for 10 minutes. A wet tea bag can be used in place of gauze. If bleeding persists, please call our office.

You should continue your regular dental routine of brushing and flossing but not in the surgery area. Starting the following day, you will be using the rinse that we provided twice a day after meals. Gently rinse the liquid throughout your mouth —no vigorous swishing or pumping. Let the rinse gently run out of your mouth. Under no circumstances should rinsing be done to stop bleeding.

An ice pack can be applied to the outside of your face near the surgery site. Use the pack for 15 minutes on and then 15 minutes off for the first 8-12 hours to help with swelling. Please report any excessive swelling to our office at 316-775-5451.

If you had an implant placed today you will feel a metal healing abutment in the site where your tooth is being replaced. Please keep this area clean with a soft bristle brush starting 1 week from today. Be sure to report any looseness of this abutment to our office immediately.

We will want to see you in our office in a week to 10 days to remove sutures and check the healing process.

If you have any concerns about the progress of your recovery, please contact our office at 316-775-5451.
