Denture/Partial Reline Procedure
- Seat patient & Introduce yourself.
- Place the bib on them, and empty out the sterilized instruments on the bracket table.
- Notify the Doctor that the patient is seated and of the patients wants, needs, desires and any other pertinent information.
- Treatment plan
- Take impressions of the old dentures in larger trays using regular alginate impression material. Usually using 3 scoops of impression material, placing it in the tray larger than the old denture. The denture is seated with a down & forward motion and wiping some impression material 1/2 way up over the ridge of the old denture so the lab can see edges of the old denture in the impression.
- Partials: Doctor to prep teeth for Partial supports if pt. has never had a partial.
- Discuss using the two alginate system is more accurate to decrease the number of sore spots
- Doctor picks the size of trays for the impressions
- Shake the foil packets down to settle the contents, add powder to the liquid and mix. In mixing the material you press the spatula blade against the side of the bowl to eliminate the lumps so you have a very smooth material. The tray material is placed in the impression tray so some alginate pushes through the holes to keep it in the tray when it is removed from the mouth. The syringe material is placed in the syringe (bubble free). Impressions are left to set for 7 minutes and a timer is set.
- Upon removal from the mouth the impression is rinsed under running water then sprayed with a disinfectant and then wrapped in a wet paper towel and placed tray side down so it is not distorted. (the impression is wrapped in a wet towel so it is kept near 100% humidity where the material will be most accurate and not distorted by drying out)
- Document the verticorder on the 3—apt. denture sheet & in the pt. record; Nose, Lip, Total, Total with old denture, Planned vertical dimension.
- Chart appointment in patient’s chart. Make any changes or adjustments to patient’s appt. in the computer and Add your name in the assistant field if not already there, then Complete the appt. in the computer.
- Take pt.’s chart up front so they can Submit pt.’s insurance, be prepared to Schedule pt.’s next appt. & Treatment plan any changes to pt.’s current treatment plan.
- Inform the patient of what their next appointment will be, Ask if the patient has any questions, & Escort the patient to the front desk so they can check out.
- Take the impressions to the lab, pour them up in yellow dental stone. Trim models, box in the proper lab box and sent out that day with the proper lab script. Call Kaylor (943-3226) to notify them they have a pick up ready.
- Remove Impression material from Tray, place tray in Ultrasonic to be sterilized & rebagged
